What is a Daydream Session?
A Daydream Session is a custom styled session focusing on children, ages 4-14, as well as expecting mothers. Clients will have a pre-consultation (email) and in-person consultation (in studio for local clients) to select wardrobe and decide on location and other details. At the heart of a Daydream Session is the desire to capture the essence of the phase of life you or your children are experiencing in an artistic, emotive and visually dynamic way. Many families remember to have professional portraits made during the first year or two of a child’s life, and then forget about it entirely until Senior Portraits! There are so many special things about children in “the middle years”, and I want to capture them!
How is a Daydream Session different from a regular session?
Daydream Sessions are for those who love a very artistic look to their portraits. They are for those who would like to display portraits on their walls, but want them to look like artwork and not a standard portrait. They are for those who would like an heirloom keepsake album of their images to cherish and pass down through generations. The images from a Daydream Session may still include smiling-at-the-camera poses, but will also include a lot of thoughtful expressions, creative posing, and natural movement. Clients will not only have access to my wardrobe collection, but they will also have the opportunity to choose wardrobe from international children’s boutique clothing designers which I have chosen specifically for this purpose. This opens up a whole new world in terms of whimsical style, variety of color, etc.
Are the sessions “themed”?
Daydream Sessions can be themed in terms of color and style (for example, “soft, pastel, whimsical” or “colorful, bold, fun), or they can be themed on era or subject (“1920’s/art deco”, “circus”, “ballet”, “tea party”, “boho”, “expectant earth goddess”).
Are props included?
Props are included; however, if props require a special order or delivery and set-up service, there will be an additional charge which will be discussed and agreed upon during the consultation.
Is wardrobe included?
Yes, wardrobe is included in the session fee for up to two outfits. (One outfit per child, up to two children OR two outfits for one child). Additional outfits can be added for $45 each. Daydream Sessions can accommodate one outfit change (two looks).
What about hair and makeup?
Professional hair and makeup is included in the session fee. Remember, this is a special, artistic session! Even children can benefit from this – makeup for children is extremely light, and hair is almost always a wonderful thing to have done. Should you not wish to use the hair and makeup service, that can be discussed at the consultation as well.
How do I know my child will cooperate?
It is a great idea to bring your child/children with you to the consultation. This helps them to feel that the photographer is a friend and not a stranger at the session. However, I have been working with children for a long time, and have all sorts of methods for helping children to have fun and relax. I love to engage the children in the session, having them “help me”, look at their photos on the back of the camera, and hear me express my excitement over how amazing they are turning out. Often, by the time we are halfway through the session, the child is giving me posing ideas, which I am happy to go along with!
Can I and/or my spouse be in some of the photos?
Yes! While I do not provide wardrobe for adults (except for expectant mothers), I will be happy to create some inspiration boards to help you with your wardrobe selection.
Do the sessions have to be at a certain time of day?
Yes, Daydream Sessions begin 90 minutes before sunset. The exact time changes throughout the year as the time of sunset changes. Weekend and weekday sessions are available.
Are the digitals included?
Digital images are NOT included in the session fee, but are available for purchase.
How do I order artwork or digitals?
Within two weeks of your session, you will have an in-person Session Reveal, at which all orders are placed. Local clients will come to the studio for the Reveal and non-local clients will have a live online meeting. It is important that all decision makers attend the Session Reveal, as images not ordered are purged following the Reveal. There are no exceptions to this policy.
How do I pay for my order?
Payment is taken at the Session Reveal. All major credit cards, checks, and cash are accepted. Payment Plans are available.
What is the cost of a Daydream Session?
There is a $375 non-refundable retainer (session fee) due at the time of booking. This retainer reserves your date and covers the session itself, including everything listed above. Artwork and digitals are available for separate purchase via Daydream Collections.
