Mallory & Jeff’s Powel Crosley Estate Wedding, Sarasota

The weather leading up to Mallory & Jeff’s wedding was worrisome to say the least. Florida was in the path of a Hurricane. Not to be deterred, the couple, their friends & family, and all the vendors marched forward. Happily, we were rewarded with NO rain and lots of wind (to me, that’s a great thing, because…well look at the photos!). The Powel Crosley is one of my absolute favorite wedding venues in Sarasota. Not only is it historic and classically beautiful, but the staff is always awesome and so is Milan Catering (yay for yummy vendor meals!). I can never speak too highly of having a great team on a wedding day, and that was even more true on this day when I had both Michael Bartley and Mike Zawadzki as my associates.

Mallory and Jeff were so laid back and had amazing style. Brides can always count on Eri Vincent to deliver when it comes to hair & makeup. Mallory’s hair was perfect in a messy braid – the wind just made it look even better. The pops of deep red in the flowers and her lips added the perfect amount of drama to a wintery looking day and the neutral tones of the historic Powel Crosley Mansion. Mallory and Jeff knew how to pull off vintage without the slightest hint of cliche. The cherry on top of this gorgeous wedding was  DJ, provided by Grant Hemmond,  who truly listened to his clients and played the most amazing 80’s and 90’s new wave/dance-pop set throughout the reception. Every time I look at Mallory & Jeff’s gallery all I want is to photograph it again and again! (Crossing my fingers for a vow renewal or anniversary elopement in a decade or two!)

Karissa’s Bradenton Maternity Session

There are few things more beautiful to me than a growing family and an expecting mother; and there is something a little extra special about the first time. I have found that so many expecting mom’s desire to capture the way they feel visually equates to a look inspired by nature, and the magical mystery of bringing a new being into this world. Even those who are typically pretty casual and simple in their personal style ask me about flowing gowns and flowers in their hair. There is something to be said for feeling and looking like the powerful, beautiful goddesses they are.

When I’m working with my clients on designing their maternity session, we talk about their vision and what colors speak to them. Most choose one or two of my maternity gowns to wear and select some flower crowns or headbands. I also encourage my clients to wear one outfit that is a little less whimsical, particularly if their partner will be in in the photos. I have found that approaching the maternity session this way creates a beautiful, well rounded gallery. My goal is always to create images that will stand the test of time. Even if flower crowns aren’t popular in ten years, the images will still be well done and timeless. I think we can see this by looking back at paintings throughout history of mother figures and goddesses. Pregnancy is a time in life like no other, and it deserves a little sprinkle of fairy dust. 🙂

I’m so excited to meet this little baby that should be making his entrance any time now. He is a lucky boy to be arriving into the arms of parents who are so ready to love on him and raise him to be as awesome as they are.

Catherine & Adam’s Classic Longboat Key Wedding

Catherine and Adam are a quiet couple who’s unique brand of fun personality sneaks up on you. The same was true for their elegantly understated wedding with a touch of classic Old Florida glamour. The day began at the Longboat Key club, where the Sarasota sunshine fills every room, and the balconies have beautiful views of the gulf’s white sand and blue waters. The traditional ceremony took place at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and a ride on the trolley took guests to the Longboat Key Resort for the reception. The resort boasts the best of both worlds, with a large expanse of trees dripping with Spanish moss, backing up to a small sandy beach with palm trees and a gorgeous view.  The best part of the day was watching the bride and groom, who up until that point had been rather reserved, let loose and dance their hearts out with their friends and family. A horse head even made an appearance. Apparently this is an inside joke among friends that we were not in on, but it was fun to watch. It was such an honor to be part of this amazing day.

To see dates, times, and what’s included, click on Book Now, above.

Holiday portraits already? Yup! It’s that time of year, friends! Everyone knows how crazy busy everything gets as soon as Thanksgiving arrives, and no one likes the stress of wondering if their Holiday Cards will get out on time. Let’s be honest, if you are sending out cards at all you are totally WINNING AT LIFE. So grab one of the five sessions I have opened up for booking and cross one thing off your list early! There will be several locations available: Palma Sola Botanical Park, The Celery Fields, Coquina Beach, and more to be added later. Let’s talk a little bit about these sessions.

I have chosen to offer what amounts to an abbreviated version of my regular sessions (rather than mini sessions) for a few reasons:

  1. TIME & CONNECTION: In my experience, it takes about ten minutes for my clients to really warm up to the camera. It can take a few minutes to calm a nervous child, or convince a strong willed toddler to have fun and smile. It takes a little time to connect with clients, and that is what makes photos really shine. I’d rather not rush.
  2. VALUE: Rather than a themed set-up that may be super fun for the holidays but would not get a prime spot on your wall year round, your family portraits will be timeless and can be displayed in your home in every season. You can still have a festive holiday card by selecting a design with lots of holiday color and artwork.
  3. LIGHTING: Mini Sessions are usually full days of back to back short sessions. What this means is that only a handful of families will be photographed during the best light of the day. I have eliminated that problem by only shooting two sessions at a time, both during golden hour.

To add even more value to your holiday photos, the first five families to book their session will receive $200 off an additional session later in the year (this will cover the whole session fee). Want photos for Mother’s or Father’s Day? Baby turning One? Pregnant? Here you go! You can also gift this $200 value to a friend or loved one.

Surprise Proposal – The Oxford Exchange

A few months ago, I had the honor of photographing the wedding of a lovely couple who had equally lovely wedding attendants. One day, following the wedding, I received an email inquiry from John. He was planning a surprise proposal for his girlfriend, Rachel (who was in the wedding), and wanted me to stealthily photograph it. I was sad I couldn’t be there myself because I was already booked for a wedding that day, but that’s when having a wonderful team comes in. I knew Mike would do a wonderful job, and that he loves the fun of hiding like the paparazzi.  When I found out what John had planned, I was so excited. John had a custom book made, which Mike planted on a table at The Oxford Exchange in Tampa. He brought Rachel there under false pretenses and then they “found” the book together, which led into John dropping to his knee and asking Rachel to be his wife. The expression on her face was absolutely priceless, and the love and laughter that fills their relationship truly shines through in these images. Congratulations, John and Rachel! Well done!
